When you would use this
Turning a PDF into images is nearly always about getting a document into somewhere that will not take a PDF. A form that only accepts JPG. A WhatsApp message where a PDF arrives as a file nobody opens but a picture is read immediately. A slide, a listing, a printed proof.
Resolution is the only decision that matters here. A PDF has no resolution of its own — it is instructions for drawing a page, which is why it stays sharp at any zoom. Turning it into an image forces you to pick one, and that choice cannot be undone afterwards: enlarging a small JPG does not put detail back.
Screen is fine for something being viewed and forgotten. Good is roughly 150 dots per inch on A4 and is the right default — text stays crisp on any display and the files stay sendable. Print is around 220 dpi and produces large files; use it when the image is going on paper, and not otherwise.
Every page is rendered onto a white background first. That is not cosmetic: a PDF page is transparent wherever nothing is drawn, and JPEG cannot store transparency, so without a white ground a page with any empty area comes out with black patches. It is the single most common defect in tools that do this job.
One page becomes one file. A forty-page document therefore produces forty downloads, which some browsers will ask you to permit — if you only need a few pages, split them out first and convert the extract. And remember the result is a picture: the text is no longer text, so nothing in it can be searched, selected or copied.

- What quality should I choose?
- Good, unless it is going to a printer. That is about 150dpi on A4 — sharp on screen without producing files too big to email.
- Can I still search or copy the text afterwards?
- No. The result is a picture of the page. If you need the words, use the extract text tool on the original PDF instead.
- Why did I get twenty downloads?
- One JPG per page. For a long document, split out the pages you need first and convert only those.
- Why do some tools give me a black page?
- Because a PDF page is transparent where nothing is drawn and JPEG cannot store transparency. Every page here is drawn onto white first, which is why that does not happen.
- Is my document uploaded?
- No. The pages are rendered inside your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
